During its juvenile phase, the Mimic Lemon Peel Tang, also known as the Mimic Surgeon or Chocolate Surgeonfish, displays an oval, yellow body with blue accents around the eyes and gill covers, resembling the Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissimus). As it matures, the body darkens to a tan color with red highlights appearing around the eyes and pectoral fins. Additionally, the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins take on green tones while maintaining tips of the tan body color.
To house a Chocolate Tang in captivity, a 125 gallon or larger aquarium with ample live rock is necessary. Not only does this provide enough space for the fish to swim, it also offers territories within the live rock for the Tang to establish. While it is known to display aggression towards other Tangs and Surgeonfish, it typically coexists peacefully with other species. To maintain optimal health and reduce aggressive behavior, a diet of marine-based seaweed and algae is crucial. Offer dried seaweed on a rock or use a veggie clip, and make sure to feed at least 3 times a week.
