The Giant Feather Duster, also known as the Feather Duster, boasts a tan or orange fan-shaped crown with bold brown band accents. In some cases, the radiole can reach a whopping 7 inches in diameter or showcase more vibrant hues. This creature skillfully uses its radiole to extract small floating organisms, directing them towards its mouth located at the center of its crown. To protect its segmented body, it produces a parchment-like tube as a shield. If disturbed, it swiftly withdraws its radiole into the tube. If under extreme stress, it may shed its crown and regrow it later. This intriguing marine species is typically found nestled in coral rubble at the base of the reef aquarium, often incorporating pieces of rubble into its tube. For optimal health, it requires a well-established reef system as it relies on plankton for sustenance. Be aware, this creature is highly intolerant of copper-based medications!
Supplemental feeding of phytoplankton and liquid organic foods should be provided.
