The Black Emperor Tetra is a stunning sight – its silky black body and cream snout make it an eye-catching favorite. Males boast an impressive “trident” tail and finnage, while females are smaller in size. A schooling species, these tetras should be kept in shoals of at least 6-10, with ample swimming space and plenty of décor. Tank-bred but indigenous to South America, they prefer acidic water with tannins and leaf litter. Highly adaptable, they also accept quality dry, frozen, and live foods. Noted for its peaceful nature, the Black Emperor Tetra is an ideal choice for the community tank. Min. tank size: 10 gallons. Temp: 73-81° F. pH: 5.5-7.5. KH: 4-8 dKH. Size: 1.4-1.7″ (3.5-4.2 cm).
