The Blackbelly Triggerfish, also known as the Black Patch Triggerfish or Bursa Triggerfish, is a stunning species that commands attention. With its vibrant coloration and unique facial features, it’s impossible not to be captivated by this fish. Its face is divided in half, with one side adorned in striking white and the other in vibrant yellow. Adding to its charm is its delicate pencil-thin moustache and colorful mask that covers its eyes. But perhaps the most distinguishing characteristic of the Rhinecanthus verrucosus is the large circular black mark on its abdomen. This fascinating fish requires at least a 125-gallon aquarium with ample rocks and caves to explore. And don’t be surprised if it rearranges the landscaping and rocks to its liking. When it’s content, it may even vocalize with a “grunting” sound. To keep it healthy and thriving, provide a varied diet of meaty foods including squid, krill, clams, small fish and hard shelled shrimp to help wear down their ever growing teeth.
