The Blonde Naso Tang, also known as the Orange-spine Unicornfish, undergoes changes in color as it matures. As a juvenile, it is grey with a yellow stripe on its dorsal and anal fins. However, when it reaches adulthood, the body becomes a darker bluish-gray shade and the juvenile stripes are enhanced with additional colors. The tail also changes shape to a lyre and two yellow patches appear near the tail’s peduncle spines. Additionally, a thin, black mask forms between the eyes and mouth, and the lips gain a yellow hue. Naso Tangs found in Hawaii typically exhibit brighter colors compared to those found in other regions.
It is essential to have a 180 gallon or larger tank for your Blonde Naso Tang (Naso elegans) to allow for ample room to swim, hiding spots, and a secure lid to prevent jumping. While this species can be aggressive towards other tangs, it usually remains peaceful with other tankmates. To maintain optimal health, it is crucial to provide a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae, as well as regular feeding of meaty foods. This balanced diet will boost their immune system, decrease aggression, and promote overall wellbeing. Offer dried seaweed attached to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least three times per week.
