Plerogyra corals, specifically from the genus Plerogyra, possess a flabello-meandroid skeletal structure characterized by depressions or valleys instead of solid and continuous structure. The polyps are capable of expanding to a large size, often resembling grapes, tubes, or irregular shapes. The Bubble Coral Plerogyra typically features a predominant light blue color with green undertones on the sides. Here are the recommended water parameters for cultivating this coral species:
- Calcium: 420 – 440 ppm
- Alkalinity: 2.86 – 3.93 MEQ/L (8 – 11 dKH)
- Phosphates: 0
- Magnesium: 1260 – 1350
- Strontium: 8 -10
- Temperature: 75° – 80° F (24° – 27° C)
- Salinity / Specific Gravity: 1.023 – 1.025
- pH: 8.1 – 8.4
This species of Bubble Coral Plerogyra obtains primary nutrition from symbiotic zooxanthellae. It is recommended to supplement their diet with mysis and brine shrimp. In order to propagate them, a mature tank is highly recommended. These corals prefer moderate lighting and water flow and can be found in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. They are listed as a threatened species under Appendix II of the CITES List and proper spacing from other coral specimens is recommended due to their semi-aggressive behavior. To acclimate the Green Bubble Coral Plerogyra, maintain a salinity of 1.023 to 1.025 specific gravity, as they are a marine species. Additionally, be cautious of their long sweeper tentacles that may sting nearby corals.
