The Featherfin Catfish (Synodontis Euptera) is a savvy species of the Mochokidae family, happily living around Central Africa’s rocky rivers – like the White Nile – with plenty of woody hideouts for snoozing and scavenging. It’s famous for its sound-producing abilities, emitting an anti-predator squeak by rubbing its pectoral fin-spines against shoulders grooves. This not only protects it from danger, but also helps it to communicate with friends in dark and driftwoody areas. Sometimes called the Lace Cat or Synodontis Lace Catfish, these cuties are often seen in gray-striped juvenile or brown spotted-adult styles, both featuring delicate feathery fins. The long spotted dorsal fin is particularly spectacular when extended! Add in three pairs of barbels, and you have an adorable fish that’s a definite must-see.
