The Female Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster Lalius) is a peaceful and shy fish that thrives in pairs, swimming together in thickly vegetated waters. This intriguing species, originating from India, West Bengal, Assam, and Bangladesh, is a labyrinth fish, meaning it breathes from the air with a lung-like labyrinth organ and requires access to the water’s surface. Its common name “dwarf” is fitting, as it only reaches a maximum size of two inches. The male is distinguishable by its bright orange-red body with turquoise blue vertical stripes that extend into the fins and a pointed dorsal fin, while the female boasts a duller, silvery blue-gray color and a rounded dorsal fin. A variety of vibrant color hybrids are available, such as the Coral Blue Dwarf Gourami and the Flame Dwarf Gourami, each with its unique coloration. As peaceful creatures, they can coexist with other similarly tranquil species.
