The Fire Shrimp is an active species that thrives under low-intensity lighting, making it perfect for aquascaped habitats with caves and overhangs. While it gets along with its mate, it may chase away other Fire Shrimp if kept in a small aquarium. But this peaceful creature will happily coexist with other organisms, except those who invade its territory. As a “cleaner shrimp,” it plays an important role in reef systems by setting up cleaning stations and removing dead tissue and parasites from fish. It also scours the substrate for meaty bits, often only revealing its antennae. Just like other invertebrates, it cannot tolerate high levels of copper or nitrates in the aquarium, so proper water parameters are essential for its growth and health. Don’t forget to maintain adequate levels of iodine for successful molting.
