Indian Gold Ring Bristletooth Tangs are known for their vibrant yellow bodies, earning them the fitting species name of truncatus for their unique tail fin. As experts know, other species in the genus Ctenochaetus typically have pointed tips on their tail fins, setting the Squaretail Bristletooth Tang apart. This fish boasts an eye-catching orange and brown body with bright yellow spots, and its eyes are ringed with a vibrant yellow color. Known for their protruding mouth and bristle-like teeth, these Ctenochaetus tangs are skilled at sifting, sorting, and scraping for food. To provide enough space for these active fish, a 70 gallon or larger aquarium is recommended. However, it’s important to note that this species can be aggressive towards other Tangs and may be harassed by their own kind. However, they are typically peaceful with other fish and sessile invertebrates, making them a great addition to a single-specimen tank.
Tangs are omnivores and can consume meaty foods with other fish in the aquarium. However, it is crucial to provide them with an ample amount of marine-based seaweed and algae to promote their immune system, reduce aggression, and enhance overall health. Offering dried seaweed attached to a rock or using a veggie clip, and feeding at least three times a week is recommended. Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Seaweed Selects are all highly recommended and easy to incorporate into a saltwater fish or reef aquarium for controlling algae.
