The Lined Blenny, also known as the Linear Blenny, is a smaller blenny with a distinctive coloration – white on the lower half and brown to black on the upper half. Their comical appearance is due to their very large eyes and small mouth. These fish make great additions to reef or peaceful fish-only aquariums, regardless of size. Typically found among crevices and rocks on the sea floor, they require a tank with at least 30 gallons and plenty of live rock for grazing, perching, and hiding. It is important to keep them away from aggressive species that may cause them to retreat.
The Linear Blenny is an ideal addition to a reef aquarium and is generally considered safe for reef environments. However, it may nip at the polyps or bases of Acropora sp. and other SPS corals. If the aquarium is primarily made up of SPS corals and is not heavily stocked with mature colonies, the Linear Blenny may cause damage to Acropora sp. and Montipora sp. The diet of this fish should include marine and blue-green algae, which can be found in frozen and dried foods with vegetable matter. It also serves as a natural algae controller in the aquarium.
