The vivid Longhorn Cowfish livens up reefs in the Indo-Pacific with its striking tan-yellow body dotted with white and blue. Don’t confuse it with the Polka Dot Boxfish, Ostracion cubicus. Wild specimens can reach up to 20″ in size, while aquaria-housed Longhorns typically max out at 16″. Expertly introduce these Cowfish first to a large tank with some live rock for algae scraping. Be warned: Longhorns don’t get along and their skin secretes a toxin lethal to other tank-mates. Nourish them a varied diet of meaty and vegetable fare, as they eat slowly and don’t fare well with aggressive eaters. With the right care, the Longhorn Cowfish is a long-lived, vivid addition to the tank!
