With its peach-orange base and two contrasting white stripes – one behind the head and another just behind the eyes – this species is as visually striking as it is challenging to spawn and rear. Females tend to be larger than males, and the pair usually remains close. Egg-layers, they defend their eggs – which hatch in 8-11 days – fiercely. To successfully rear fry, they must be fed rotifers and baby brine shrimp. As they mature, they often form schooling “balls”! These beautiful fish also thrive on an omnivorous diet.
