Spectacularly colored Tiger Cowrie shells are egg-shaped and glossy with eye-catching spots. Depending on its location, colors may vary. The Tiger Cowrie lacks an operculum, yet its opening is lined with “teeth-like” structures for protection. It can be found in the wild hiding under rocks or on soft corals, foraging for food mostly at night. This beautiful species requires a rock aquarium with various hiding spots. Small Tiger Cowries eat algae and scraps; however, adults consume anemones, sponges, and soft corals. They should be housed with starfish, sea urchins, and tubeworms, and not with Condylactis sp. Low nitrates levels and no copper-based medications are essential. A larger Tiger Cowrie should be fed pieces of fish and mussel too.
